Gaussian Blur

My favorite technique from this week is the forced depth of field.

In images with a cluttered background the viewer's eye is drawn to the subject rather than to the really gross litterbox in the background.

  1. This is a stunning image. One of your best so far. Excellent work. The eyes really pop against the cold gray tones.

  2. Chris,

I really like the combination of lights, darks and lots of midtones in this image. Working together, they make an interesting composition in which the focal point is the eyes...oooh, those pale aqua eyes. I love how you've cropped the image so that the gaze is centered between the beautiful ears and those amazing whiskers!!! Very nice job.

  3. PS. You are absolutely right about the bluring of the background helping us to focus on the cat. No litter boxes wanted in these photos!

  4. I agree that adding the Gaussian blur enhances most every image. A wonderful tool to add to our toolkit! That image is wonderful! Those eyes...it always amazes me the eyes that cats have. These immediately draw you in. Fabulous job!
